PINE SQUIRRELS • Pine Squirrels, lovingly called 'Pineys' by R3, are native to North America. • They are a type of bushy-tailed tree squirrel, which includes the American Red Squirrel, Douglas Squirrel, and the Southwestern Red Squirrel. • They eat fungi, plants, seeds, and insects. R3: What’s your favorite animal at the rescue and why? ANGIE: Honestly, every week I have a new favorite at the rescue. But, the one that consistently comes to mind was our boy Fillmore, a cat who was rehabbed at R3. Luckily, he got adopted to a great home, but before his adoption I always looked forward to his loud purrs, and his sweet cuddles. He truly impacted my life, because before him, I would not have considered myself a cat person. But his sweet disposition, changed that for me. R3: Tell us your favorite rehab intake you've been a part of? ANGIE: My favorite intake would have to be any baby animal. Knowing that R3 is stepping in and caring for orphaned babies just warms my heart. Knowing that we are helping an animal that otherwise may not have survived, is just an amazing feeling. R3: What is your favorite part of being at the rescue? ANGIE: My favorite part of the rescue is a release! That’s the entire goal to let them go back to living their life! Along the same lines, my volunteer shift often deals with domestic animals (dogs and cats), with an unknown history. But to watch them learn to trust with the ultimate goal of being adopted, is just as amazing! Literal happiness when you hear an animal has left R3’s care because of a release or adoption! R3: Any advice for someone looking to volunteer? ANGIE:For me deciding to volunteer was not a decision I took lightly. I was worried my animal loving heart would not be able to handle some of the things I feared I would see. But it has easily been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Yes, there are difficult situations, but all good outweighs that. I come home from every shift feeling like I made a small difference in an animals life. It feeds my soul. So if you’re interested in volunteering, give it a try. Congrats! We love you, and appreciate all the hard work you've done!
