Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What animals are being rehabilitated at the rescue?

A: R3 rehabilitates sick, injured, and orphaned local wildlife.  Throughout the year we may have raccoons, groundhogs, birds, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, opossums, and even deer. (There may be other animals not listed here.) At times, we temporarily care for domestic and exotic animals, such as cats, dogs, sugar gliders, turtles, and birds. In addition, we have resident farm animals: goats, ducks.

Q: What are the tasks I will be asked to do as a volunteer?

A: Volunteers are needed to help with daily tasks such as cage cleaning, laundry, dishes, sweeping, mopping, and feeding the animals.  A volunteer shift may also include assisting with animal intakes and one-time tasks, such as putting together a cage or organizing a section of the facility, educational events and transportation.

Q: How often are volunteers expected to come help?

A: We ask that every volunteer works a minimum of two times per month to stay on as a volunteer.  However, if you are available on a set day each week, that is ideal.  This helps us know we are consistently covered on that day every week.  Of course, volunteers can sign up to help on any days that are best for them week by week.

Q: What are the shifts and times for volunteering?

A: R3 has two main shifts (morning and evening) each day that consist of roughly the same tasks.  Morning shifts tend to have more cage cleaning expectations, however, any cage cleaning that is needed should be done at any time of the day.

Q: How are volunteers trained?

A: New volunteers are required to have three training sessions with a veteran volunteer.  These sessions are about 2 hours long and will introduce you to the different areas of the rescue and the standards of care needed in those areas.  The areas include the nursery, main facility room, and the outside enclosures.  After three training sessions, upon approval, you will then be able to schedule your own days/times to volunteer each month.
